ABOUT

This website serves Band students and parents at Montclair Elementary School and Fernbank Elementary School in the DeKalb County School District. The program teacher is Tim Mason. 

All fourth and fifth grade students at Montclair and Fernbank are eligible to enroll in band. Instruments taught are flute, clarinet, alto saxophone, trumpet, trombone, and percussion. 

BAND DIRECTOR

Tim Mason has taught band in the DeKalb County School District since 2014. He holds holds a Bachelor of Music degree in Instrumental Music Education and a Master of Arts degree in Music Education from Middle Tennessee State University.

Since starting his teaching career in 1992, Mr. Mason has directed ensembles ranging from elementary beginning band to competitive high school marching band. Mr. Mason's bands have consistently earned superior and excellent ratings at state and regional performance evaluations, festivals, and contests, and his high school concert and marching bands have achieved first place and finals placement in regional and national events.
 

Mr. Mason’s musical career also includes five years of service as a Noncommissioned Officer in the United States Army Band at Fort Hood, Texas, an assignment which included deployment to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom II. Mr. Mason completed basic combat training in 2000 at Ft. Jackson, South Carolina, and then graduated early and with honors that same year from the U.S. Armed Forces School of Music in Norfolk, Virginia. For his service Mr. Mason was awarded the Army Commendation Medal (2), Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, and the National Defense Service Medal. Mr. Mason received Honorable discharge from Active Duty service in 2005.
